After serving for 90 years as a school, this valuable Town asset is well into its second decade of use as a community center, providing much-needed space for a variety of programs and services sponsored by two Town departments and several organizations to benefit the community.
In fall 2018, the Board of Selectmen commissioned a new CCC Project Committee to reassess the Caryl facility for its purpose and needs, and on October 7, 2019, two options were brought to the voters at a special town meeting. Dover citizens affirmed the importance of a community center for the Town and voted to simultaneously pursue the further development of the two options offered: 1) Renovate the current facility; and 2) Tear down and build a new smaller (18,000 sf) facility at the same site. Learn more about the Community Center Building Committee here.
We continue our efforts to improve the comfort and functionality of the CCC for all its users and to create, insofar as possible, the look and feel of a true community center. Recent accomplishments include the following:
- Full renovation of the four 1930’s-era public restrooms, completed in 2016.
- Expansion and paving of the parking lot, 2017
- Installation of air-conditioning in COA spaces, 2017 and 2019
- Expansion of the hallway displays featuring different aspects of the Dover community:
- The Dover Historical Society’s exhibit of watercolors by Dick Vara, Dover historian and author of Dover Days Gone By
- A photo display of COA activities
- Parks and Recreation sports posters
- Community theater photos of Dover Foundation and Open Fields productions
Your comments and suggestions for additional improvements or programming are always welcome. You may contact the chair of the Caryl Management Advisory Committee.

The Parks and Recreation Department has its office on the second floor, along with space for equipment storage. It holds its programs in various spaces throughout the CCC.
Council on Aging Office
The Council on Aging now has its office, storage space, and all of its activities on the first floor of the CCC.
Three Additional Tenants
The three regular tenants who have dedicated space in the CCC and hold license agreements with the Town for their space are the Center for the Development of Children (CDC), Erin’s School of Dance, and Parent Talk.
Regular Renters
Regular renters of non-dedicated spaces have included Open Fields, the Dover Foundation, and the Dover Mothers Association.
